Dear professor de Zayas:

My name is Stelios Vasilakis, and I write to you on behalf of greekworks.com, the publisher of Professor Speros Vryonis's book, The Mechanism of Catastrophe: The Turkish Pogrom of September 6-7, 1955, and the Destruction of the Greek Community of Istanbul. We recently became aware of the legal opinion you have written in relation to the events September 6-7, 1955, and the consequent destruction of the Greek community in Istanbul.

We are in the process of printing the first paperback edition of the book, and we would like to include your "Legal Opinion" as an introduction, since it is of great relevance to the book.

Can you please let me know, whether or not this is okay with you, and how we can proceed about it.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes,

Stelios Vasilakis

Thanks for your note, Prof. de Zayas; very neat Web site.

I hope you find time to encourage your UN colleagues who have a taste for it to get out on the public stump a bit and mix it up. There's a Professor Keith Lepak who runs something called Peace and Conflict Studies at our local university, although I don't know much more about it or him. Prof. Keith Lepak, c/o Youngstown State University, Youngstown, Ohio 44555; www.ysu.edu. There's probably an audience that wants a more fully rounded view of what the UN does.

Thanks for writing about Guantanamo and Iraq. I know a Youngstown (Ohio) woman who's a solid Republican, has two sons serving in Iraq, and was a citizen-guest of President Bush at the White House a few years ago. (She works at a Community Health Center visited by the President in May 2004.) She's increasingly unhappy with the war. Best wishes.

I exchanged correspondence with you sometime around the late 1980s or early 1990s. God bless your immense courage.

Dear Dr. DeZayas,

After a visit by my family during this wonderful Christmas day, I now enjoy a quiet evening here in my retirement community -- and I am so delighted to have found your personal link!

You see, Oct. 13 my book was published. As an autobiography my story deals with my childhood in Nazi Germany, then growing into a young girl I describe life as a German in Occupied Poland between 1939 and 45, and subsequently my experiences as refugee, who on a 400-mile-trek fled from Poland to escape the advancing Soviets. The details of my memoir include pictures seldom seen by Americans, also rare maps and describe the terror, hardships, homelessness, famine and Post War Conditions in Germany.

My book's title is "I Can't Forget: A Journey Through Nazi Germany and WWII" and is listed with Amazon under:

http://www.amazon.com/Cant-Forget-Journey-Through-Germany/dp/141965070X/sr=11-1/qid=1167088938/ref=sr_11_1/102-2341821-9925730

In connection with the genre of the book, my publisher invited me to select (an) author(s) with whose book(s) I wish to have mine "paired" on Amazon. This Pairing is scheduled to go on display within the next days. It is my extraordinary privilege, that I was able to choose your fine work "Nemesis at Potsdam." I would be delighted to learn of your reaction on these matters.

Best regards, Frohe Weihnachten, Gesundheit und viel Glueck - mit einem Bayrischen Rutsch in's Neue Jahr !

From your sincere admirer, Gudrun Everett

Mr de Zayas,
Fascinated by the forgotton history of the ethnic Germans of the East, I have been reading up on the subject as best I can, I proceeded to choose it as a written portion of my exams, in Ireland. I must say, I got quite a pleasant surprise to find your books in the bookshop a while back, they have shed a lot of light on the subject as possible, with the closest neutral standpoint I can find.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year,
Declan C.

Dear Alfred,
You may recall we met briefly in Yerevan in April, 2005, at the time of the Genocide Conference. I was then the U.S. Ambassador there. I have since left the U.S. State Department and am currently living outside New York, in Sag Harbor. I just visited your website, which is most impressive and informative, as well as being a pleasure to explore. I wish you all the best for the Christmas and New Year's holidays, and hope you will find snow!

verbleibt

Ihre

Dear Professor,
you rule!! Keep it up, and be sure to come share your thoughts with us @ GSD!

Dear Orhan,
Are you going to fight over who has been blamed or is to blame? I do not believe that this is the issue of main concern. The main issue is that people (who happened to be Armenian) have had their human rights breached (the same rights that Turks should and do have) by people who happened to have been Turkish. There were dead people. And one person is worthless (meaning, his life has no price)Why don't you be above all of this, and as a Turk make peace and dialogue with the Armenians, no matter who blames who? Is it that hard to be human?

Poor Alfred
If you ever manage to get your head out of the Armenian and Greek propaganda you might see the truth. You constantly blame the Turks for everything, Im surprised you didn't blame us for burning Rome. What I also dont understand is you blame the Russians, Poles and the Chechz about killing poor Germans without questioning the atrocities done by the nazis in eastern-europe. Your reasoning is illogical and utter nonsense, how did you ever made te be a professor is beyond me.

Sehr geehrter Herr Professor,

I certainly understand some of your points. But do you feel that it was the intention of those who signed the Atlantic Charter to sanction mass rape, the shooting of civilians and the depriving of a nation of one quarter of its territory. The Poles and Czechs are so afraid that someone will dare to portray the Germans as war victims which many of them were. The Poles and Czechs have themselves to blame for this fear since it was they who brutally expelled the German population from their homes and raped, murdered and confined old women and children to newly reopened concentration camps. All this is confirmed by eyewitness testimony. In this country, most people do not sanction the use of criminal action as a means of reeducating a whole nation. (see Manihar Whig below)

Sorta sua contentus, Content with his lot. This is the motto on my coat of arms. I really sure of the significance of this saying of my coat of arms. However, I did a google search with this phrase and it led me to this website. Please let me know if you can help me understand the importance of my coat of arms.
thanks

Honored Professor:

You have accomplished so much and are so wise that I wondered about your opinion about a general international matter. The partition of Ireland into Protestant and Catholoic nations, the partition of the Subcontinent into Muslim and Hindu nations, and the separation (legal or not) of Cyprus into Catholic and Muslim segments have all produced huge losses of life. Is such loss of life inherent in such partitions? How is one to protect religious minorities from persecution?

Currently, the notion exists that one might partition Isreal and Palestine into two nations, one Jewish, the other Muslim and the Sudan into two nations, one Muslim, the other Animist-Christian.

Would either partition succeed without large loss of life? How can religious enmities be resolved without such loss of life?

Thank you kindly.

Mitchell Wachtel, MD
