Dear Prof. de Zayas

Many congratulations on your 60th birthday.

Can you drop me a line by email? I would like to invite you to speak at a conference event we are planning later this year.

Best wishes

Dr. Gramsch

I lived through this mess: June 1945, Graslitz, Sudetenland.
My mother and I (b. 3 Oct 31) were evicted from our apartment with two suitcases, two hours time limit to pack.
We were transported to Eger (Cheb) in American GI truck and incarsarated in a internee camp (internaciho tabora), I call it a concentration camp where the Czechs tried to slowly starve us to death. On 9 Dec 45 my mother found a way to escape that place and we walked across the border to germany. On 9 Dec 49 I left Heidelberg (thanks to relatives in Illinois who sponsored me) and traveled on the SS Washington to freedom - AMERICA! On 9 Dec 51 I married the most beautiful girl in the world. After signing my "Declaration of Intent" to become a citizen I was drafted into the US Army. I served in Korea during 1953 as an infantry soldier. Two months after my discharge in Jan 54 a federal judge swore me in as United States Citizen. I am enjoying total freedom ever since then. God bless America!

Dear Mr. de Zayas

Am currently researching OHCHR and would be very interested in knowing more about your era with the Office. Perhaps an interview or just a chat...

Would be very pleased if you would get back to me.

Enjoyed your website.

Warm best

Dear Sir, I am a Greek historian, Ph.D. candidate in Athens University. I have written in Greek three books: Third Reich (Athens: Periscopio, 2005), Propaganda in WWII (Athens, Periscopio, 2006), Axis War Crimes (Athens: Periscopio, 2007) and I am currently working on Allied War Crimes (Athens: Periplous, forthcoming), I have of course relied extensively on your works.
I am also editor of the series WWII Historical Archive to be published by Periplous editions. Volumes will be
1. Ezra Pound-America, Roosevelt and the Causes of Present War (1944) foreword by Demetres Tryphonopoulos, New Brunswick University
2. A. Hitler-Speech on Balkan Campaign, foreword by K. Svolopoulos, Athens University, Professor of History, Academy of Athens
3. J. Goebbels, Speech on total War
4. Wir kapitulieren niemals (Werner Naumann, Wir kapitulieren niemals-1944, 30 Kriegsartikel fuer das deutsche Volk by J. Goebbels-1943)
5. W. Churchill-Speeches on the Battle of Britain
6.American Genocide Proposals (Morgenthau Plan and Kaufmann's Germany Must Perish)
7. Kamikaze Notes

I am thinking also in this series to edit a book with testimonies on Allied and Axis bombing against civilians or alternatively on war crimes in WWII.
Would you be interested in writing a Prologue for such a volume or of course for whatever you would like? I am trying to gather distinguished personalities for each volume. It would be a great honour for our series

Dear Professor de Zayas,

Some time ago I participated in the summer human rights program through Santa Clara Law School. Subsequently, I graduated from my law school and moved in and out of the legal field. I married and moved to Florida to be near and assist my family. For the last eight years I have been a principal of a successful charter school in Bradenton (Sarasota) Florida and am the proud father of a little girl named Francesca (age 6).

I am contacting you in the hope that you might wish to reacquaint yourself with me and in order to thank you for what turned out to be one of the best experiences I had in law school. I moved from DC after I met my girl friend – my “to be wife” and got involved in running a school completely by accident. Now eight years later, I am not only somewhat of an old hand, but have learned to enjoy the challenges.

I no longer am in contact with Steve Lieberman as we had a falling out soon after graduation. Frankly, Steve had a knack for burning bridges, and I always felt that people may have associated us too closely. Be that as it may be, he is in DC and I am not. Also, another friend of mine who graduated that summer cum laud is Karim Ibish. Despite doing well, he never did pursue the law and instead is a manager for a band (music unknown) in Colorado or elsewhere. Finally, the last I heard of Richard Verches was that he was working for an oil company in LA, was married and had had a child.

I see from your web page that you have been very busy and published. This is fantastic! I hope that you choose to respond and can update me on how you are and what is new with you.

Respectfully,
Richard Donnelly

Dear Dr. De Zayas, I am great admirer of your work. As a lowly graduate student in the hisory program at Carnegie Mellon I have spent my first year intensely researching the issue of the expellees. Your name comes up repeatedly, as very few scholars have had the courage to speak out about the inhumanity of the German expulsion. I wanted to thank you for publizing the event that has affected so many, but is known by so few. Sincerely, Adelheid Schaupp.

Lieber Herr De Zayas,

Anders Lundgren

Al. I think the last time I saw you was at the '93 FUGC reunion. You stood next to me in the tenor section. You, of course, were always ne of my idols, along with the grat Bill Diaz, and the greater Ray Messina and the greatestLou De Bergalis. I'm stll the managing atty at STB. Here's the rest of my current activity:
I would like to share with you that my son Daniel has been selected as a finalist for the White House Fellowship program. There are 107 finalists of whom 20 will be chosen. By an extraordinary coincidence the final interviews were at STB on 3/22. I think you know that my son did his duty and is now a civilian again. You may also know how extraordinary this is for a dopey Dad from Valentine Ave., Da Bronx. Daniel's resume reads like a work of fiction. Except…. that he called me from every duty station, so I know it is true. Dan is currently at Seton Hall University and will be receiving a double Masters in June of this year -- from the Business School -- a Master of Science in International Business and from the Whitehead School of Diplomacy, ---a Master of Arts in Diplomacy with a Specialization in Foreign Policy. I have 3 other children who have equaled or bettered Dan’s accomplishments. Michael is Chief Resident at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn. Brian is a teacher of autistic students in Philadelphia. My princess, Claire, is an RN in the ER of Johns Hopkins hospital in Baltimore. And, my wife Patricia, was elected Catholic Grammar School Principal of the Year for the Diocese of Newark New Jersey. I share this with you, because you know where I came from. Fordham Road, Da Bronx. And I am dumbfounded.
Best Regards, Dan

Congratulations for this very nice picture of the speakers of the Human Right to Peace conference. The Conference in itself was also really interesting. Thanks for all!

Kosova is a corruption of a Slavic genetiv declension of a
Serbian word Kos (black bird). Field of black bird is koso-
vo polje (pronounced as in spanish polle). Kosova does not have any meaning in Albanian language. It is changed to give it legitimacy, "o" to "a" Less drastic then Konstantinopolis to Istanbul. Abbreviated from Kosovo Polje
to Kosovo. France is Frankreich and Italy is Lombardia. Is
America really India?

Monika Maier

Dearest Alfred, What a joy it is to see how vital your life and scholarship continues to be! Thanks be to God!!! Now you know what I was calling you about when you had your guests...I wanted personally to tell you about Mohter's passing. I was VERY glad to hear that you were present at her Memorial. You hold such a special place in our hearts. All the best for tomorrow's opening day of the 4th gathering of the Human Rights Council. I am soooooo glad that you will be there. Please email me some options of times when I might give you a telephone call and at what number. I am living in North Carolina now and am only 6 hours behind you in Geneva. I live just down the road from Duke U. where Professor Lemkin taught and am setting in motion some interesting things for the 60th anniversary of the UDHR and the 1948 Convention on Genocide. Have some ideas of how we might do something together. Please give my love to Carla and our mutual friends. warmest regards, Wilda xoxoxo

Hello Dr. de Zayas,

I am the daughter of one of the German expellees from West Prussia, who was forced out of her village home in Gross Jauth, Kreis Rosenberg, now part of Poland of course. As a child I heard the story countless times, and when visiting relatives in Germany as an adult, in more graphic and horrifying details than I remembered as a child. Now, being more aware of and interested in my ethnic history, I realized that the story of the expulsion of Germans from their homes was never mentioned in the media, for whatever reason one may surmise, but almost seems an unworthy "so what?" dénouement to the WWII story. Obviously, the Allies didn't care or tacitly approved the manner in which the Germans were expelled.

I came upon your name after doing some research on the post-WWII expulsion, and I'm glad to see that there are, after all, books out there which tell the story. Thank you.

Am reading your NEMESIS and WEHRMACHT--- for the first time at leisure and in detail. Extraordinary; grim; jarring. Must reading for non-specialist, general interest readers (as I am) who are concerned with "quality of citizenship" issues. (When is my country right or wrong, etc.)
Your John Demjanjuk article was read into the Congressional Record by then Congressman James Traficant of Ohio's 17th Congressional District, which covers the Youngstown-Warren area where I live. A brawling populist and enormously independent, Traficant would lecture interested constituents on his Sunday TV show on Washington as it really is. Best wishes.
