CHANNEL SURFING

Cruising:...
Too many channels
Too little magic.

Gypsies of the screen,
Wanting all at once,
Silly toons,
MTV rap,
Chasing automobiles,
Horror scenes,
Ten-second thrills.

Zapping on …

Out of curiosity,
chronic Impatience
sheer boredom:

And zap again.

Nomadic viewers
Searching on and on
With a fleeting smile,
Rejecting the panoply
Of second-hand emotions

Zap, zap, zap

Experiencing unase
at the spectrum of banality,
feeble impulses
confused impressions,
cognitive dissonance.

Zap for good measure..

Ah! Surprise,
Momentary fun:
Sexy aerobics,
Cocktails at a swimming pool,
Clever commercials,
Better than soap operas
But shorter.
Speaking dogs,
Star wars.

Zap for faith

Praise the Lord,
Immediate salvation
Instant coffee
Nirvana
Fire and brimstone
Upon sinners
Ephemeral peace.

Déjà vu …

Sports – not my team –
Not my game.
Wheel of fortune,
Infantile

Zapping on …

At last something:
The Discovery Channel
Blue glaciers,
White sharks,
The Namibian desert
Hyacinthine macaws
Of the rain forests
Galapagos Turtles

Talking cats.
What?
No, it’s the pub.

Zap again!
